The highly anticipated medieval sandbox game, Pax Dei, has officially launched into Steam Early Access. Developed by Mainframe Industries, a studio featuring veterans from renowned companies like CCP, Blizzard Entertainment, Ubisoft, and Remedy, the game promises a vast and dynamic player-driven experience.
Described as a “social MMO sandbox,” Pax Dei invites players to build their homes, explore a colossal 300 km² open world, engage in deep crafting, and fight for valuable treasures. A core element of the gameplay loop is the ability for players to form powerful clans, establish their own thriving settlements, and engage in large-scale warfare – or work together to foster peace across the land.
Early Access is expected to run until at least June 2025, giving the developers ample time to refine core systems and add new content based on player feedback. Planned future updates aim to improve the combat mechanics and crafting systems, as well as introduce a dedicated trading economy.
Initial player reception seems strong, with concurrent players already surpassing 7,000 according to SteamDB, and the numbers continuing to climb since launch. At the time of this writing, user reviews on Steam are not yet available as players spend more time in the world.
Pax Dei is available for purchase during its Early Access phase. The development team has also announced that a monthly subscription will be required to play the game once it fully launches after the Early Access period.
