Fans of dark fantasy and challenging RPGs have reason to mark their calendars. Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, the ambitious video game adaptation of the popular dark Arthurian tabletop game, is officially set to leave Early Access and launch its full version on May 23rd.
Developed by Questline and published by Awaken Realms, the game has spent a total of six years in development, with two of those years available to players via Early Access. Now, the full vision of this Polish-developed first-person, open-world RPG is ready for players to dive into its grim world.
A Grim Reimagining of Arthurian Legend
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon plunges players into a dark fantasy world inspired by Arthurian legends, centuries after King Arthur’s reign began. The game is designed as a mature, first-person perspective open-world RPG, offering an estimated 50-70 hours for a core playthrough, with much more for those who delve deeper.
The Full Scope of Avalon Awaits
The official launch brings the complete experience, packed with a wealth of content refined over its Early Access period. Players will be able to explore three massive zones: the Horns of the South, Cuanacht, and the frozen mountaintops of Forlorn Swords. Each area is designed to be fully open and traversable, packed with secrets and dangers.

The world is populated by 250 unique NPCs, all fully voice-acted to add depth and a personal touch to your interactions. Engaging with these characters will unlock over 200 side quests, ensuring countless hours of challenging gameplay beyond the main narrative. You’ll face more than 60 unique enemy types and delve into 70+ dungeons filled with secrets and formidable foes.
The central story itself is a complex, branching main quest with dozens of possible endings, reacting to player choices and offering significant replayability as you decide what legacy Arthur’s long struggle leaves on the world.
Play Your Way in a Perilous World
One of the key promises of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is player freedom. The game encourages experimentation with builds and playstyles. Whether you envision yourself as a “crazy alchemist/berserker,” an “epic blacksmith mage summoning undead hordes,” or even a stealthy archer (yes, that archetype is fully supported!), the game provides the tools through stats, perks, equipment, and crafting to play exactly as you want. Combat is dynamic, allowing you to swap between melee weapons, bows, magic, throwables, and mixtures to create a unique fighting style.
Beyond combat and quests, supporting systems like a sketchbook, fishing, blacksmithing, alchemy, cooking, mining, farming, and house management are included to further immerse you in the world. Be mindful of the night, however, as the primordial force of Chaos, known as the Wyrdness, emerges, adding a survival element to your journey through Avalon. The narrative is mature and often morally grey, forcing you to make difficult decisions throughout the main story and side quests.
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon officially launches on May 23rd, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Prepare to forge your legend in the dark lands of Avalon.
