Throne and Liberty Team Preview Next Week’s Throne and Liberty The Frozen Divide: Nix Update in Depth

The Frozen Divide: Nix is set to arrive next week, and the development team behind Throne and Liberty has delivered its most detailed breakdown yet of the expansion, pulling back the curtain on systems, zones, and progression changes in unprecedented depth.

The new dominion, Nix, deliberately breaks away from everything seen before. Where Talandre offered lush, vibrant landscapes and Stonegard leaned into brutal harshness, Nix introduces a far more hostile identity—one built to challenge players in entirely new ways. Alongside this new region, the update raises the level cap to 60, increases maximum skill progression, and introduces fresh narrative content. Adventure Codex Part 3: Driftmoor spans six full acts, and players will also receive a Character Boost item, allowing them to instantly raise a new character to level 55 with basic gear, ready to step directly into the new content.

Nix itself is a frozen wasteland—an unforgiving expanse buried under relentless blizzards and biting cold. It is a place few can endure for long, which is precisely why it exists as a neutral frontier, untouched by both the Arkeum Legion and the Resistance. At launch, the region will feature two major strongholds—the Aetherion and Frontier Hold—each designed with a distinct structure and purpose.

The Aetherion rises above the landscape as a floating aerial fortress, held aloft through a fusion of Venelux magic, Resistance engineering, and Dimensional Circle technology. Reaching the surface from here requires a specialized descent device, reinforcing its vertical, layered design. In contrast, the Frontier Hold lies buried underground, functioning as a protected neutral hub where conflict is suspended. It remains open to all origins, races, and ideologies, offering a different rhythm of interaction compared to traditional combat zones. Both strongholds are tied to their own adventure codices, adding further depth to their roles in Nix.

Across the five hunting grounds scattered throughout Nix, players will encounter distinct biomes, shifting terrain, and a wide variety of new enemies. One of the standout additions is the Field Event system—dynamic encounters that can be triggered on demand rather than waiting for fixed spawn cycles. The update includes 25 of these events, each carrying its own narrative thread, progression path, and reward structure. Core rewards in Nix revolve around Redfrost items, which anchor the region’s progression loop.

Unlike previous areas, Nix does not feature Abyssal dungeons. Instead, it introduces solo dungeon content tailored for individual progression. Traditional waypoint travel is also absent, replaced by the Auroral Path system, where players navigate using Star Beacons to chart their own movement through the frozen expanse.

A new weapon class also enters the spotlight: the Gauntlets. Built for close-quarters devastation, this hard-hitting melee option offers two distinct playstyles, designed for players who thrive in the center of combat. Despite their specialization, they are intended to synergize with the broader weapon ecosystem rather than operate in isolation.

The presentation also revealed several systemic overhauls, including Item Grade Consolidation and a shift toward Item Levels, reframing progression around acquisition rather than pure enchantment grinding. With steady play, players will be able to naturally obtain gear aligned with their progression curve. Equipment Traits are also being reworked, giving players more control over enhancing specific attributes that suit their build.

These changes are designed to broaden accessibility across playstyles, particularly for solo players and small groups, while emphasizing the “joy of hunting and acquiring” as the central progression philosophy. The Remnants of Nix inter-server PvP zone further reflects this direction, offering fast-paced 1–4 player skirmishes centered on resource control, risk management, and timed extraction decisions.
